Suitable for Many Different Plants and Orchids Air Plant Holder
Air plants need airflow to thrive. Use the baskets upright or upside down to hold them. In Thailand people hang Spanish moss under the basket.
Staghorn Ferns
Use wooden baskets for small staghorn ferns & potted ferns. For staghorns fill the basket with wood chips & spagnum moss before mounting the fern.
Flowering Plants
The natural wood of these baskets looks great for a display of flowering plants. Here you can see some petunias in a pot mounted in a basket.
Table & Wall Displays
These baskets can be used without hangers to create a table or wall display. One basket on its own or three baskets together on a table look good.
We have many satisfied customers from all over the USA buying our orchid baskets, including orchid growers in Florida and California where the weather can be very hot and humid. Our orchid baskets are made in Thailand from teak wood and thick wire to last even in strong weather conditions.
Made By Local Village People In Thailand From Discarded Off-Cuts Of Teak Wood
Local families in Northern Thailand make these orchid baskets from discarded pieces of teak wood. They cut the wood to the right size, drill holes & then put them together with strong wire & nails. By buying this product you are supporting the livelihoods of local village people in Thailand.
Choose Different Methods to Display Your Orchids Roots Through The Basket
For orchids which substantial roots like vandas, thread the roots carefully through the gaps in the bottom of the baskets.
Roots Over The Basket
An alternative method is to sit the plant on bark chips inside the basket, then drape the roots over the basket edges.
Roots Inside The Basket
For smaller orchid plants like some dendrobiums you can put the roots inside the basket and add a potting medium like bark chips.
Basket Upside Down
Another option is to put the basket upside down and drape the roots over the sides. Also very good if you want to hang Spanish moss underneath.
What sort of orchids are these baskets suitable for?
Many different orchids can go in these baskets. See the 4 potting methods above for more suggestions. Orchids with long roots can be threaded through the slats in the bottom of the baskets for example.
What are the baskets made of?
They are made of recycled teak wood off cuts from teak wood furniture making. It’s a good way to make sure that scrap wood doesn’t go to waste. Teak wood is hard waring and resistant to rotting, warping and splitting.
Do the mesh pads need to be used?
If you are threading an orchid’s roots through the base you don’t want to use the pads as they will get in the way. But if you are using a potting medium it is helpful.
If my orchid has outgrown its basket should I remove the basket before putting it into the new basket?
Not necessarily. It can be difficult to remove a basket without breaking all of the orchid’s roots. You may want to simply put the basket inside a bigger basket.
Why are these baskets better than others?
These baskets are also made for orchid growers in Thailand where the weather is hot and humid. With thick slats of teak wood and strong wire holding the baskets together they will suit even hot places such as Southern California and Florida.
How to Mount Dendrobium Orchids in the Hanging Wood Baskets
Use a well-draining potting mix like bark chips or sphagnum moss to surround the roots and to keep the plants in position. In this video you can see the square baskets but the method with octagon shaped baskets is the same.
Set of 3 octagon-shaped wooden hanging baskets for orchids, air plants and many other plants such as staghorn ferns. The set includes mesh inserts for the baskets and 34 inches long galvanised steel wire hangers to hang them up
One of the baskets in the set is 10 inches wide, one is 8 inches wide and one is 6 inches wide. Made in Thailand from recycling the leftover off-cuts from teak wood furniture making. Teak is a hard waring wood which is resistant to rotting, warping and splitting
These wooden hanging planters have gaps between the wooden slats which allow for really good airflow which is important for successfully growing orchids and many other plants
Can be displayed indoors or outdoors, hanging or standing on a surface. A set of these baskets filled with your favorite ochids looks really good hanging under a terrace or standing on a table
Suitable for many types of orchids. To secure small orchids in these baskets first insert the mesh in the bottom of the basket. Then add a well-draining potting mix like bark chips or coconut husk. For orchids with large roots insert the roots through the gaps between the wooden slats
