What sort of orchids are these baskets suitable for?

Many different orchids can go in these baskets. See the 4 potting methods above for more suggestions. Orchids with long roots can be threaded through the slats in the bottom of the baskets for example.

What are the baskets made of?

They are made of recycled teak wood off cuts from teak wood furniture making. It’s a good way to make sure that scrap wood doesn’t go to waste. Teak wood is hard waring and resistant to rotting, warping and splitting.

Do the mesh pads need to be used?

If you are threading an orchid’s roots through the base you don’t want to use the pads as they will get in the way. But if you are using a potting medium it is helpful.

If my orchid has outgrown its basket should I remove the basket before putting it into the new basket?

Not necessarily. It can be difficult to remove a basket without breaking all of the orchid’s roots. You may want to simply put the basket inside a bigger basket.

Why are these baskets better than others?

These baskets are also made for orchid growers in Thailand where the weather is hot and humid. With thick slats of teak wood and strong wire holding the baskets together they will suit even hot places such as Southern California and Florida.
